Biography

Anthony Natale’s first memory of wanting to be an actor was at a residential high school for the Deaf, when the movie Grease first came out. Being hearing-impaired and at somewhat of a disadvantage before films were available in closed captions, Natale came across a pop-up book about the movie and took it with him to watch.

Right away he knew he wanted “to be an actor like John Travolta." Handsome and funny, Natale says, he was the class clown in school and would have become an actor whether he was deaf or hearing.

Natale is known to moviegoers as the guy in the elevator during the pivotal scene from Jerry Maguire, signing “You complete me” to his partner. He starred as the adult son in Mr Holland’s Opus and has also been seen in Children of a Lesser God. He had a lead role in the USA Network movie His Bodyguard, in which his character was protected by a beautiful woman, played by Mitzi Kapture (of Silk Stalkings and Baywatch fame). Other films Natale has appeared in include City of Angels, Sorority Boys, and the suspense thriller Two Shades of Blue starring Rachel Hunter, Eric Roberts, Gary Busey, and Marlee Matlin.

On television, Natale has appeared in such series as Any Day Now, Once and Again, Seventh Heaven, Ellen, Beauty and The Beast, Pacific Blues, and Rude Awakening and has performed in numerous theatrical productions, including One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, West Side Story, The Red Shoes, The Greatest Show on Earth, Godspell, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver, and Alice in Wonderland. He also has been seen in the delightful Pizza Hut commercial in which two hearing-impaired people connect over the Internet and don’t know until they meet in person that the other is also deaf.

Anthony is also the star of How to Talk to a Person Who Can’t Hear, the first video made to teach Sign Language to the general public, which has garnered awards from the U.S. International Film & Video Festival as well as a young Artist Award. He counts among his hobbies foreign films, rollerblading, real estate renovation, and kick-boxing, and he absolutely loves sushi. As a personal trainer, he has also trained clients to be physically fit, and he teaches Sign Language classes and private lessons.
